The Soundscape Poetry Project

The Project

Building on the UK’s rich history of spoken word poetry, The Soundscape Poetry Project has created audio spaces to showcase poems and performances through the complementary use of sound and music.

By pairing poetry with bespoke audio landscapes, we aim to encourage people to interact with spoken word poetry in a surprising and original way.

In 2020, we ran a kickstarter campaign and launched a new competition, to discover a New Voice in Poetry. We worked with our competition winner; the marvelous Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa, as well as established poets; Rachael Boast, Kirsten Irving, Malaika Kegode and Tim Turnbull, to record their voices and set them to aural accompaniment.

The Soundscape Poetry Project is available as a limited edition 12” green vinyl record, packaged alongside an accompanying illustrated book, containing detailed information about the work and the artists involved. The package is also available to buy digitally direct from Culture Recordings, and to stream, via your favourite streaming service.
